48-year-old first-time mother gives birth at Mayanei Hayeshua

Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center, which has one of the most experienced maternity departments in Israel, also has the distinction of delivering some 13,000 babies a year, the highest number of Jewish births in the country.

And while every birth is an occasion for joy, this joy was extra special for Tammy and Shamai Saruy from Ashdod, who recently celebrated the birth of their first child, a baby girl called Ayala Simcha.

What makes this story so extraordinary is that first-time mother, Tammy, is 48 years old. Ever since her wedding when she was 21, Tammy had tried unsuccessfully to conceive. For 26 years, the lives of the couple were filled with longing, disappointments and despair. They turned to Israel’s finest doctors for help, and they also sought blessings from many of Israel’s leading rabbis and Hassidic leaders. Tammy began every fertility treatment with high hopes, but every treatment ended in despondency. However, Tammy and Shamai had faith. They never gave up the belief that one day, they would embrace their own child. They never accepted that they would remain childless, and they continued to hope and pray for a miracle.

The miracle happened after they received a blessing from the Rebbe of Vizhnitz, who has a reputation for praying on behalf of childless couples. Within a few months, Tammy discovered that she was expecting a baby. Under the watchful care of the medical staff at Mayanei Hayeshua, Tammy’s pregnancy proceeded to full term, and baby Ayala Simcha was delivered safely. One of the first things that new father Shamai  did after the birth was to travel to Bnei Braq to personally thank the Rebbe.

A spokesperson for Mayanei Hayeshua said: “We welcome close to 40 new babies into the world every single day, and every birth is a miracle. However, Tammy’s story is really special. This brave woman underwent so many years of difficult treatments, and we feel privileged to have helped deliver her bundle of joy.”
